For the third year running the RAC has been recognised as one of the UK’s fastest-growing private mid-market businesses in the Sunday Times E&Y Top Track 250 published yesterday (27 September 2020).
Ranked in 11th position this year, the RAC grew its overall membership in 2019 by 0.5m to 12.2m, increased its H1 EBITDA by £8m to £114m, and won new corporate business with companies including BCA and Groupe Renault. This was in addition to retaining all its existing relationships with partners such as Barclays and Mercedes-Benz Cars.
RAC CEO Dave Hobday said: “Our unique and differentiated approach, combining customer-centric driving and mobility innovation with a relentless focus on exceptional service that provides our direct members and our corporate partners with ‘complete peace of mind’ has enabled us to maintain strong financial, customer and operational momentum in 2019 and deliver our eighth consecutive year of growth.
“We continue to invest in our breakdown and insurance businesses as the RAC’s core growth engines and now have more members choosing to join Orange and more choosing to stay Orange than ever. In addition, our investments in digital, data and expanding our offering are already bearing fruit, giving us further opportunity to maintain our strong trajectory in the coming years."
The announcement continues what is proving to be another strong year for the RAC despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dave Hobday added: “Despite all the challenges this year has presented, this recognition reaffirms the strong position the RAC holds within the breakdown assistance and insurance markets as we enter the final months of 2020.
“None of this would have been possible without the hard work of our 4,000 colleagues who every day deliver complete peace of mind for our customers, whatever their driving needs.
“Their commitment throughout COVID-19 has been beyond belief, working non-stop to keep the UK roads flowing freely and 1.4m critical workers, businesses and potentially vulnerable customers moving.
“During the height of the pandemic we were very proud to go to the rescue of NHS workers free of charge and give them a 50% discount on new batteries – our most common breakdown in the crisis.”
