07 OCT 2022
Driving Theory Test 2022 is rated #1 in the Apple App store for driving theory tests and #9 for education and is trusted by more than 2.3m UK users
The purchase represents an important step in RAC’s mission to become #1 for driving services
The RAC is today announcing that it has acquired one of the UK’s most popular apps used by learner drivers preparing to take their theory tests.
Driving Theory Test 2022, which includes content licensed by the Driving Vehicle and Standards Agency, has more than 2.3m downloads and more than 50,000 monthly active users. It has a 4.7-star rating on the Apple App Store and 4.5 stars on the Google Play Store.
Jointly owned by Silver Lake – a global leader in technology investment, CVC Partners and GIC, the RAC has purchased the app as part of its ongoing mission to become the UK's #1 for driving services, providing ‘complete peace of mind’ for all driving needs.
The app contains everything learner drivers need to know in order to pass their theory test with confidence. It features practice questions on all key areas of the Highway Code, hazard perception videos, traffic signs and mock tests. The app is available via a £4.99-per-month, cancel-anytime subscription. The RAC has also purchased six other variants of the app covering: hazard perception, Highway Code, PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicles), motorcycle, LGV and HGV, and the car driving theory test.
RAC chief executive Dave Hobday said: “We are on an exciting journey to digitalise and revolutionise the way we provide driving services to our 13m members.
“Our acquisition of the hugely popular and highly effective Driving Theory Test 2022 app is another important step in enabling the RAC to help and support the next generation of drivers.
“While we are best-known for providing ‘complete peace of mind’ breakdown cover and competitively priced motor insurance, we are rapidly expanding our presence in the driving services market to create sustainable long-term growth.
“This purchase comes hot on the heels of the launch of a new garage referral portal last year which allows drivers to find and select a reputable garage to fulfil their servicing, MOT and repair needs. More recently in an effort to simplify the service, maintenance and repair experience for drivers our new Mobile Mechanics are ‘bringing the garage’ to customers all over the West Midlands servicing and repairing cars conveniently and affordably on drives and at workplaces.”
