Championing drivers

Complete peace of mind™, for all your driving needs

Every year, we publish our Annual Report on Motoring, which is the UK's longest-running, most authoritative study of drivers' views. We take the issues that matter most to motorists and use our influence to campaign for change at a national level. Among the top issues identified by drivers' in 2025 were:

  1. The condition and maintenance of local roads.
  2. The cost of insuring a vehicle.
  3. The cost of fuel for running a vehicle.
  4. The standard of other motorists' driving and aggressive behaviour.
  5. The cost of keeping their car on the road.

We successfully lobbied the Government on the pothole debate, resulting in local authorities in England being given a record level of funding to repair roads in 2025/26.

We also played a key role in the extension of the 5p fuel duty cut and in the introduction of a new law to improve fuel price competition. Through RAC Fuel Watch we campaign for fairer prices for drivers.

Keeping our members safe

The health and safety of our members is paramount – both during a breakdown, but also every day out on the roads. We regularly publish advice on everything from new baby carseats and the school run, to understanding the impact of health conditions on your ability to drive. And we’re here whatever the weather – from freezing winter conditions to staycations and driving overseas.

Protecting your pocket

The cost of owning a vehicle is on the rise, and we do whatever we can do help our members save money. We can find you the cheapest cars to insure – particularly if you’ve just passed your test.

We also help cut the cost of running your car – from finding the cheapest fuel to driving economically and tips on car maintenance that can help avoid unnecessary repairs or fines. And if you have a minor car problem, check out our YouTube guides and have a go at fixing it yourself. If you need an expert, our Mobile Mechanics can come to you, at home or work.

Protecting our planet

The nation’s transition to EVs hinges on affordability of cars and charging infrastructure. We were pleased to see the Government respond to our call for the reintroduction of EV grants aimed at more affordable cars. We highlighted the need for charging infrastructure to be accessible and reliable in our EV Public Charging Charter which was supported by a House of Lords committee. We also continue to call for VAT on public charging to be reduced from 20% to 5% to match the rate levied at home.
